Do it
Yourself
Follow the
instructions below to find the GPS points of the regional ecosystem
mapping provided by the Queensland Government.
1. Download
the information from the Environmental Protection Agency. You will
need a lot on Plan number (from a rates notice), or a GPS coordinate and
an email address. The information will be sent back in about half
an hour. This can be done on most rural internet speeds.
- A certified Regional Ecosystem Map
here...- requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, free from
Adobe's website. Map can be printed on two A4 pages, or
contact Landcare for an A3 print.
- Data file for a mapping program (ESRI Shapefile)
here...
2. Load the file into a mapping program.
If you don't already have a computer mapping program, download one these
free versions. This may take a while on rural dial up speeds.
Contact Landcare If you would like it sent out on a CD.
3. Load image into the mapping program.
Satellite and aerial photography are available from a number of places.
The cost ranges from $15 (those who already have a map from us) to a few
thousand, depending on availability and your location.
- Contact Taroom Shire Landcare for an electronic
version of your property image, or look on the CD that came with
your kit.
